Aside from Tian Wei Signature, one of the other confinement food delivery services that we were rather keen to try was Yue Zi Le Confinement Catering. What drew our interest to their confinement food trial was the number of signature dishes that they have on their menu – a whopping 41 different nourishing soups, 22 carbohydrate selections, 61 meat dishes, and 43 vegetable items, which span across both Western, Chinese and International cuisines. In total, that makes a total of 167 creations that you can look forward to during your entire package. There’s absolutely no way to be bored of that, right?

We ordered their trial package i.e. their Premium Trial Menu which cost us just S$38. Their trial meal comes with a Soup of the Day, a Carb Dish, a Meat Dish, a Vegetable Dish, a Dessert Soup, and 1 litre of Red Dates Tea. The ordering process was also really straightforward and we were even able to secure a slot for the day after even though we submitted a late-night order.

Yue Zi Le Confinement Catering delivered their Premium Trial Menu on time. We were initially just expecting one dish per “category” but were pleasantly surprised to find that they had given us two different types of Carb Dish, Meat Dish and Vegetable Dish to try i.e. we could sample more of their already extensive menu. We also appreciated that Yue Zi Le Confinement Catering provided us with a detailed menu so we knew the exact dishes that we were sampling.

The Premium Trial Menu that we tried comprised of the Fenugreek Green Papaya Milky Fish Soup, Five Grain Rice and Sweet Corn Rice, YZL Signature Pork Trotter Vinegar and Seared Salmon – Corn Cream Sauce, Steamed Tofu with Minced Meat and Lion’s Mane Mushroom in Oriental Sauce and King Oyster Mushroom stewed with Chayote, Silver Fugus with Red Dates and Wolfberry and 1 litre of Premium Red Dates Dong Shen Tea. We also liked that their Red Dates Tea was served in bottles as opposed to the usual “bubble tea cups” as that made it easier for storage when we were unable to finish consuming the entire drink. Trust us, we were spoilt by the selection they gave us and the portions were so generous that it was enough to satisfy both of us fully.

Out of all the dishes served, our favourites were the Steamed Tofu with Minced Meat and Lion’s Mane Mushroom in Oriental Sauce, the King Oyster Mushroom Stewed with Chayote and the Silver Fungus with Red Dates and Wolfberry. We were impressed by how Yue Zi Le Confinement Catering managed to create a depth of flavours without the use of MSG or salt, and the ingredients used with rather fresh. However, the Seared Salmon – Corn Cream Sauce was rather muted in taste and slightly tough/overcooked for our liking.

We also preferred the Fenugreek Green Papaya Milky Fish Soup over the others that we had sampled as it was well-balanced and not overly bitter. The fish was also soft and tender, and the ingredients came in generous portions.

The YSL Signature Pork Trotter Vinegar was also quite sour but more palatable than others that we’ve tried. That being said, the pork was soft and tender despite being left in the container for quite some time. Again, the amount of pork trotters used in this single portion was more than expected, and extremely value for money.

As a person who’s not very fond of Chinese desserts, I was glad that the Silver Fungus with Red Dates and Wolfberry was not overly sweet or thick. This was my husband’s favourite dish amongst the others, and a great way to complete the meal. As for their red date tea, it was not outstanding but not bad either.

Truly, Yue Zi Le Confinement Catering was one of the vendors that we shortlisted for our confinement meal delivery services. And for S$38, their Premium Trial Menu was incredibly affordable yet delicious; definitely worth a try if you haven’t settled on your confinement meal.
