Chilli Padi Confinement: Best Confinement Delivery Service in Singapore?

Spoiler alert: We decided to go with Chilli Padi Confinement for our confinement food delivery. And why? Because we had a glimpse of what they had to offer with their Trial Meal (S$30).

Prior to ordering a trial meal to sample, we were pretty much set on Yue Zi Le Confinement Catering because of the pretty decent premium trial menu that we had a week earlier. Well, as long as we weren’t going to be sick of the food after 28 days, that was enough for us. When I mentioned that we had settled on our confinement catering service, a friend of mine suggested that I give Chilli Padi Confinement a try as this was the catering delivery that she went with for her confinement. And at S$30, this was a slightly more affordable trial menu and because my friend kept raving about Chilli Padi Confinement’s food, I thought that it wouldn’t hurt to give their trial menu a try.

Thankfully, we did. And if you’re looking to select a confinement catering service, we would unequivocally recommend Chilli Padi Confinement. Albeit slightly pricier than other catering services, the extra dollars are worth every bite. Here’s why.

If their name sounds familiar to you, this is because Chilli Padi‘s humble beginnings started from a Peranakan Cuisine restaurant that was established in 1997. To date, they have garnered national recognition for their craft and have received accolades including Singapore’s Best Restaurant (Singapore Tatler) amongst others.

Through their confinement delivery service, Chilli Padi Confinement seeks to provide postpartum care for new mothers viz their confinement dishes which incorporate ingredients focussing on the restoration of a mother’s hormonal balance, improving a mother’s immunity as well as increasing her lactation abilities. And in case you’re wondering, their dishes are low in sodium and MSG-free too. Their meals are also delivered to your doorstep twice a day (between 10:30am to 1:30pm for lunch and 4:30pm to 7pm for dinner) which ensures that new mothers will have ample rest with one less issue to worry about during their confinement period. Save for their trial menu (and final meal), their food is served in thermal containers which not only preserve the freshness of the food but also helps “save” the environment.

At S$30 (inclusive of GST), Chilli Padi Confinement’s trial menu includes the following dishes: Pig’s Trotters with Black Vinegar, Ginger and Egg, Stir-Fried Spinach with Sea Cucumber topped with Wolfberries, Sesame Kampung Chicken with Omelette, Red Bean, Burdock Pork Rib Soup, Steamed Fragrant White Rice and Longan with Red Dates Tea. A pretty awesome spread for a pretty decent price we’d say. However, do take note that the dishes with Chilli Padi Confinement do repeat themselves but most of the dishes were so delicious that we looked forward to enjoying them again!

The Sesame Kampung Chicken with Omelette was one of our favourite dishes during our confinement meal delivery service period with Chilli Padi Confinement. We loved the balanced flavours of the sesame oil with the chicken, and the gravy went perfectly with the rice. To be honest, we were surprised by how tasty this dish was given that Chilli Padi Confinement does not use much salt or MSG in their cooking. The taste of their dishes definitely served well to build my appetite (which took quite awhile to kick in post-delivery) so that I could have more energy and nutrients to breastfeed and take care of Ruth.

Although not particularly “impressive” like the Sesame Kampung Chicken, we were happy with the amount of sea cucumber that Chilli Padi Confinement included in the Stir-Fried Spinach with Sea Cucumber topped with Wolfberries. They weren’t stingy with their ingredients and this was a healthy dish that paired well with the heaviness of the Sesame Kampung Chicken. You bet that we finished every single bit of the nutritious sea cucumber!

One of my favourite components of all my Chilli Padi Confinement delivery services was the rich and nourishing soup. Their soups were always spot-on in terms of taste, and they were always very generous with the ingredients as well. The Red Bean, Burdock Pork Rib Soup was flavourful and comforting, and the meat on the pork ribs was mostly fall-off-the-bone tender.

As for the Pig’s Trotters with Black Vinegar, Ginger and Egg, this was one dish that I specifically requested to remove from our delivery services as I do not eat Pig’s Trotters. However, my husband commented that this was far by the best Pig’s Trotters that we had out of all the confinement trial meals. From what I recall, he noted that the gravy was infused with just the right amount of vinegar and it was not overly salty. Also, he gobbled up every single bit of this dish. Need we say more?

Chilli Padi Confinement’s 28-day dual meal will cost you S$1,688 and all their meals will come with Longan Tea with Red Dates. Though it comes with a slightly heftier price tag, this 28-day package will also come with 4 complimentary bottles of Freshly Baked Lactation Cookies, a S$50 Chilli Padi Nonya Restaurant Dining Voucher and S$50 Chilli Api Catering Voucher and S$100 off a themed buffet set up with Chilli Api Catering (with a minimum spending of S$1,000).
